The Swimming Pool as an Enchanting Arena
Discover the sparkling transformation of the Veenweidebad in Mijdrecht! On October 25, 2023, the pool underwent a makeover with the installation of cutting-edge LED lighting from WaterVision. This groundbreaking upgrade replaced outdated mercury vapor lamps and brought a brand-new vibe to the swimming pool. The choice of WaterVision was not coincidental; it was a deliberate step to transform the competition pool into a dynamic, arena-like setting.
With the expertise of European Light Projects BV, this revolutionary lighting was installed, allowing swimming competitions to now take place in an exciting ambiance of light and performance.
Technical Manager Wouter Moen is full of praise for this new lighting solution. He shares, “We deliberately did not opt for the so-called ceiling line lighting. The small yet powerful lighting fixtures from WaterVision seamlessly blend into the architecture of the swimming hall. The WaterVision lighting is highly adjustable, making swimming competitions a true spectacle. The lighting has not only exceeded expectations but also brought about a magical transformation. The result is stunning.
Wouter Moen continues, “With this lighting, the current underwater lighting has actually become redundant. Swimmers are now exceptionally visible, and the overall lighting atmosphere is exceptionally pleasant. This is a significant improvement for us.”
The arena is born
The new lighting has a measurable effect on the comfort level of the swimming pool. Frank van Woudenberg (Optisport) explains how they directed the lighting: “With lux meters in hand, we, in collaboration with ELP, illuminated the long sides with at least 300 lux on the edge of the pool, and the middle and opposite sides with 400 lux, including the platform. The ease with which the lighting can be directed is an experience in itself.”
Van Woudenberg emphasizes the importance of good lighting and its impact on the overall swimming experience: “Good lighting is crucial for a swimming pool. For competitions, the KNZB has set standards, and competitive swimmers expect this. The new lighting is a significant improvement, and we are all very pleased with it.”
Multipurpose and toddler pool
The Veenwijdebad in Mijdrecht now shines not only in the competition pool but also in the other pools, thanks to the newly installed lighting from WaterVision. The old mercury vapor lamps in the multipurpose and toddler pools have been replaced with a sparkling transformation, bathing these specific swimming areas in a glow of renewed light.
Striving for quality
This impressive upgrade in lighting technology is evidence of the ongoing commitment to quality at the Veenweidebad. It is not just an improvement in lighting but also in the overall swimming experience. Visitors can now enjoy a swimming pool that literally shines like never before.
The Veenweidebad, Mijdrecht, thus becomes a beacon of recreation and hospitality for the local community. The recent lighting upgrade, supported by the enthusiastic appreciation of Messrs. Moen and Van Woudenberg, promises a brilliant future for this beloved swimming pool and those who enjoy it.
